Terms of Service

Plain-English terms for using AtarMate. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms. Last updated 5 May 2026.

What this is

AtarMate is a study-productivity app for students sitting the Victorian Certificate of Education. It includes tools for tracking subjects, predicting study scores and ATARs, planning SACs, and reviewing progress. We're independent — we are not VCAA, VTAC, or any school.

Who can use it

You can use AtarMate if you can form a legally binding contract under Australian law, or if a parent or guardian has consented on your behalf. You agree to give us accurate information when signing up (a real email you control, an accurate name if you choose to share one).

Your account

You're responsible for what happens under your account. Keep your password to yourself. If you think someone else has accessed your account, email hello@atarmate.app and change your password. You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Settings → Delete Account.

Predictions are estimates

Our ATAR and study-score predictions are estimates based on the marks you enter and on publicly available VTAC scaling and ATAR aggregate data. Real study scores come from VCAA. Real ATARs come from VTAC. We do our best to keep our scaling data current, but we make no guarantee that predictions will match the official result.

Use AtarMate as a planning tool. Don't make irreversible decisions (course preferences, accommodation, gap-year plans) based purely on a predicted ATAR.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Reverse engineer, scrape, or systematically extract data from the app or website.
  • Try to access another user's account or data.
  • Submit content that is illegal, defamatory, or violates someone's privacy or IP.
  • Upload malware, run automated bots, or attempt to break security controls.
  • Use the app to cheat on actual VCAA assessments or to share leaked exam material.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms — usually with notice, immediately if the breach is serious or ongoing.

Your content

The notes, marks, scenarios, and SAC details you enter belong to you. You grant us a limited licence to store and process them so we can run the app for you. We don't claim ownership and we don't share your content with anyone except the service providers listed in our Privacy Policy.

Subscriptions and payment

AtarMate is currently free to use. If we introduce paid features in the future, we'll show prices clearly before you're charged and bill you through the App Store or Google Play. Refunds for in-app purchases are handled by Apple and Google under their respective policies.

Availability and changes

We aim to keep the app up and running, but we don't promise uninterrupted service — outages, maintenance windows, and the occasional bug are part of life. We may update or change features at any time. If we discontinue the service, we'll give you reasonable notice and a way to export your data.

Liability

AtarMate is provided on an "as is" basis. To the extent permitted by Australian Consumer Law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (or AUD $50 if you haven't paid us anything). We're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost study time, or unmet ATAR expectations.

Nothing in these terms excludes guarantees you have under the Australian Consumer Law that can't be lawfully excluded.

Termination

You can stop using AtarMate at any time and delete your account in-app. We can suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms or if we have to (legal, security, or fraud reasons). On termination, the licence we gave you ends and we'll delete your data per the Privacy Policy.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. Disputes go before the courts of Victoria.

Changes to these terms

If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top and notify you in-app. Continuing to use the app after changes means you accept them. If you don't, delete your account.
